Twelve Manchester United players have commented on Mason Greenwood’s latest Instagram post to congratulate him after he scored his first professional goal for the club.
The young striker started in attack as United played their second friendly of pre-season against Leeds United in Perth, Australia.
United started brightly and they went ahead within seven minutes when Paul Pogba set new signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka free down the right wing and his low cross was slotted in with a striker’s instinct by Greenwood, who couldn’t have been happier with his first senior goal.
Greenwood was substituted at half-time as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put out a completely different side for the second-half, but the Norwegian was left massively impressed by the 17-year-old.
“He’s got a chance of starting that one, definitely,” Solskjaer said in regards to the opening day of the season against Chelsea.

“He’s more than capable and will always be there, in and around the box, creating chances. And I won’t say that’s not a possibility, no, it’s a good possibility. If he keeps going as he does. It’s difficult to keep players out who perform well.
“Of course we’ve been delighted with the goal he scores. It’s important for strikers to get that goal, even though we always know he’s capable of scoring goals and maybe that’s a weight off his shoulders. I think his movement, his cleverness, he’s going to be a very good player, the young boy.”
Greenwood took to Instagram after the game to share his delight in scoring and wrote: “Happy to score my first professional goal for United in a good 4-0 win vs Leeds.”
It’s clear to see how much Greenwood is liked by his teammates and colleagues as no fewer than 12 United players commented on the post, as well as young players from Arsenal, Everton, Man City, West Brom and Nottingham Forest. Even the rapper Dave sent his congratulations.
Angel Gomes, who has been Greenwood’s teammate at youth level, said: ‘Proud dad’ with a love heart emoji.
Scott McTominay and Joel Pereira both replied with love hearts and clapping emojis whereas midfielder James Garner promised there is ‘more to come’ from the striker.
United youngsters Dmani Mellor, Brandon Williams, Dion McGhee, Charlie McCann, Dylan Levitt, Largie Ramazani, Lukasz Bejger and Ethan Galbraith all also commented.
Next up for United in pre-season is a clash against Italian giants Inter in Singapore on Saturday.
