A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reported Reds target Timo Werner appearing to snub a move to Bayern Munich.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Germany international, who has been in superb form for RB Leipzig this season, netting 27 goals and registering 12 assists in just 36 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Since joining Leipzig from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016, Werner has claimed an impressive 88 goals and 39 assists in 150 competitive appearances, as well as winning 29 Germany caps with 11 goals scored in the process (Transfermarkt).
As is par for the course in Germany, the country’s top talents will usually be linked to Bayern, and this has been the case with Werner, but he went on to claim that a move abroad would appeal to him more than a move to Bavaria.
“Bayern are a great club, we don’t need to talk about it, and Hansi Flick has proven this season he is a really good head coach,” Werner told Bild. “But if a move were to become an issue at some point, I would be more tempted by a move abroad than a move to Bayern.”
In response, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the same outlet: “Really, nothing amazes me anymore, but I have never seen a player make a statement like this in response to rumours in public.”
Werner’s rebuttal of a move to Bayern and desire to play in a different league to the Bundesliga was further music to the Liverpool fans’ ears, judging by the below social media reaction:
He’s basically screaming at Liverpool to come get him

Bayern seem upset that a young German would prefer to move abroad than sign for them 🤣

@____Raghav____ Would love him to join Liverpool if it means he rubs it in Bayerns noses. 😂

He’s amazed? If he stopped doing all Bayern’s business in public, there’d be no statements to talk about. Rummenigge is the biggest loudmouth in the Bundesliga, just for once, maybe he and Bayern can do their business without making everything a public soap opera. #TimoWerner
